With or without an h

Tomorrow we are going to drive up the Whanganui river as far as Jerusalem- where James K Baxter lived and died - takes 1.5 hours if we don't stop

We are enjoying Whanganui. There was a legislative name change in 2009 that officially changed the spelling of Wanganui to Whanganui - although the legislation allowed for a "period of grace" to allow for transition to the new spelling. Not sure how long grace lasts but certainly there is little sign that most businesses in Whanganui have realised the spelling has changed. The debate in the town is a very fresh one with Council in early December 2014 voting NOT to include the H in the town's name. Maori response was swift and, not surprisingly, negative. Council took another vote mid December and decision of 2 weeks earlier overturned - but no action imminent

They may be red necked in many ways but the people of Whanganui have some amazing public sculptures. I love this one on river bank
