Never too late to learn a new word from Terry Pratchett

Reading Terry Pratchett I came across a word that was neither familiar nor made up by TP

The word is prestidigitator

It is a Victorian term for magician and made up of, delightfully, presto (Latin meaning quick) and clever digits. One who performs feats of prestidigitation,

Looking thru the ads of the time they would need to be very prestidigitational as decapitation is a common theme.

Don't say you can't learn something from TP, pictured here with his best loved character, who incidentally accounts for 2% of books sold in the UK.

A nice turn of phrase from my current book refers to 'Mrs Cake, a medium, verging on small'.
