In the Netherlands a village has been built complete with supermarket that is designed for people with dementia. It looks and to all intents and purposes is a normal village with a single entry exit point.

All the people in the shops etc are trained to deal with people with dementia. After assessment, each person has their home designed to approximate the environment that is like their default...could be from the 50's or from Indonesia, where many came from after independence. This means that the residents apparently feel at home in their surroundings. They even get meals from their experienced present cooked for them. Dubbed The Truman Show by unkind critics, it appears to offer a less disorienting lifestyle, although visiting the homes of others must seem surreal, each time they do so...
