(Belated) RIP John Christopher and Mayonnaise with Everything

Read something sad last night - Samuel Youd (aka John Christopher) passed away in February.

JC, as I assume he liked to be called, was most famously the author of The Tripods series though in our youth Mark and I preferred his Sword of the Spirits series (The Prince in Waiting et al.) which was set in a gritty dystopian future blighted by climate change and reduced to a semi-feudal collection of walled city-states in which science is banned. I have fond memories of mum and dad reading these books to us.

Looking through his list of published works on Wikipedia I am amazed to learn that I have read just under 50% of his works published as John Christopher - amazed until I think back on how much I read back then at which point I start to wonder why I haven't read the rest!

In unrelated news, I read today about Phillipa Garfield of London who is addicted to mayonnaise (http://www.odditycentral.com/funny/woman-addicted-to-mayonnaise-will-use-it-for-everything-and-i-mean-everything.html); not only does she have it on all her food (including in her coffee) but she also uses it as a moisturiser and as a shampoo/conditioner.

Rather than judge this woman I have decided to approach her situation with an open mind and, as such, will replace all of mum's moisturiser, shampoo and conditioner with Best Foods Lite Mayonnaise* and will report back to you on how it works.

I won't be putting it in her coffee though, that's just gross.

*Because it is the most delicious and thus the best
