Allons enfants

Whatever you do on 14 July hope you feel a sense of freedom

My predictive text is struggling not only with my tired one finger pecking at keyboard but also with using Frech in title! Apologies in advance. Today of course is Bastille Day - Frech National Day. Only referred to as Bastille Day in English speaking countries - in France it is Le Quartoise Juillet (14 July). Also only found out today that the prison- the Bastille- which I had always assumed held hundreds of political prisoners actually only had 7 in residence on the night if July 14 1789. Rates of imprisonment in France under Louis XIV obviously lower than rates of imprisonment in NZ under Key govt. Hard to think of any NZ prison with 7 residents.

And there is another "enfant" connection with today Billy the Kid was shot and killed by Pat Garrett on Bastille Day, July 14, 1881.
