A year can feel like a lifetime

Today of course is the anniversary of the Chch quake. Much been said about the day. My reflection is that this time last year we really had little concept of how much of Chch would be lost; how long it might take for a return to "normality" A year later we still can't say when Chch will be even a shadow of the city you guys grew up in.

Apologies to Adrian but I am going to quote John Key who spoke about Chch being like in "freeze frame" I thought that did sum up the visiting experience. You can see things have been demolished but v slowly and so little of the rebuild can you see.

Although not nearly as dramatic as the Chch experience we all have experiences where a year brings about such change that it is impossible to imagine. 1980 the year we moved to Hokitika, 1983 -the year we became parents and 2002 the year we moved to Wellington are for me single years that felt like a lifetime because the changes were so significant. What those years can highlight is that the significant life changing years aren't always bad.
