Schools but not as you knew them

Big announcements yesterday on the changes to schools in Chch. This is both following the earthquake damage and the the falling school rolls. Most significant changes are in the eastern suburbs - closure of Shirley Boys to either merge with Chch Boys or just disappear and Avonside Girls to close/merge with Chch Girls among the 36 schools impacted.John Laurenson, now looking much older has been very eloquent on the impact. Though his taste in jewellery is unusual. if you get a chance to see the video on the stuff site - note the huge spider on his lapel. Biggest changes are in the eastern suburbs and you can't help but think that's political. Shirley Boys and the schools that Tony taught at in the Aranui/Wainoni area are the ones that will be poignant for us
