Locked love in the capital

Wellington is an international city . . . Proved it tonight. I have probably walked past them lots of times but as Tony was taking sunset photos tonight I realised that the bridge was starting to become covered in padlocks and each padlock has 2 names or initials on them. Other cities around the world have bridges festooned with padlocks - in Florence the city Counil took them off the Ponte Veccio because the padlocks were weakening the bridge. Apparently the tradition, like all good ones, started with a forlorn love story - this one in Serbia during WW1 when Serbian maiden used padlock to declare love for soldier - not one that could be reciprocated. Padlock on bridge called Mose Ljubuvi or bridge of love.

Wellington has a way to go until bridge is covered like Ponte Veccio, Brooklyn in NY or the Liffey bridge in Dublin - just give us 100 years
