News today that Eric Lawson aka The Marlboro Man died. He suffered COPD - lung disease associated with smoking. He is the 5th Marlboro Man to die from a smoking related illness. At least one of his predecessors (pre-deceased-ors in this case) named Wayne McLaren had, like Eric spoken out publicly against smoking after retiring from Marlboro Man duties had been disowned by company. Phillip Morris later had to acknowledge that Wayne Had indeed been Their Man.

Pete Seegar who was famous for songs such as Where have all the flowers gone? Also died this week aged 94. Pete resigned from the group The Weavers when they signed up to provide vocals for a tobacco ad because he was so anti tobacco.
