When a word is not really one at all

Each year about this time the Oxford Dictionary sets out the Word of the Year. Last year it was "vape"

Vape apparently is what you do with an electronic cigarette.

This year's word is unusual though because it's not one

The tears of joy Emoji is this year's word of the year

Interestingly this emoji is not on my phone - so not my most used emoji
