"Jim loved your card so much he ate it."

Our system is down at work so I thought I would catch up on the blog. When I get home I will have to upload the pictures I took of mum on Mothers Day when I took her out to brunch - don't worry about leaving Mothers Day in my hands, siblings, I think I did extremely well for someone who didn't get to bed until 3am the previous evening. Can't access the political spectrum from here mum but I will do mine when I get home - as stated, I think we are somewhat comparable though I do not share your dranconian views regarding smoking!

Maria - last night there was a stroke of lightning while Matt, Amy (my friends who were staying) and I were in the lounge. Within 5 seconds Lily was in Matt's lap and shaking uncontrollably. I had never seen her shake like that but I imagine it would have been what she was like when you guys first got her. She kept like that for nearly an hour, refusing even to eat a gingernut! At one stage I went down to get something from my room and she followed me down there (something she never does!) and jumped onto my bed when we got in there, still quivering like a leaf. I think she thought I was gonig to bed and she didn't want to be left alone! Anyway, eventually she got over it and was the butt of many jokes about her bravery.

I was listening to The Bugle, an excellent weekly satirical news podcast (http://soundcloud.com/the-bugle) and there were two things I thought worth sharing:

1.) The comment "Elections are like buses: you wait forever for one and then several come at once, many of which smell horrible and all of which are packed with unsavoury characters." and

2.) This quote from Maurice Sendak:

“Once a little boy sent me a charming card with a little drawing on it. I loved it. I answer all my children’s letters — sometimes very hastily — but this one I lingered over. I sent him a card and I drew a picture of a Wild Thing on it. I wrote, “Dear Jim: I loved your card.” Then I got a letter back from his mother and she said, “Jim loved your card so much he ate it.” That to me was one of the highest compliments I’ve ever received. He didn’t care that it was an original Maurice Sendak drawing or anything. He saw it, he loved it, he ate it.”

Maurice Sendak

I hope that eventually we will have all received cards that we loved enough to eat.
