Matariki

Just in case you had forgotten this is the time of year that is Matariki - Maori New Year. Tony was remarking the other day that having new year in the middle of winter was a good idea - going from the darkness into light - kind of like the day moving from dark to light and then to dark again. I pointed out that kind of is why new year is December 31 - just a different hemisphere:-)

If there is a clear night at the moment we in NZ will be able to look up and see the Matariki (some translate as the eyes of god) constellation. Mark when you look into the British sky and see Pleides it is the same thing.
