Josh may have been in the minority but was not unique

Which of us would sleep through the big one?

We were listening to radio today about the jawbone technology - the monitor people wear that maps their sleep cycles heart rates etc. What the collated jawbone data showed was that 93% of people who both lived in the Napa Valley and used jawbone technology woke up at exactly the time the earthquake struck last week. By the time people were 25km away only 50% woke up - of this group most went back to sleep. It did make us talk about Josh sleeping through the first Chch earthquake - he might have been in the 1in 12 who sleep through magnitude 7 earthquakes - but not the only one. Do we think 7% of Napa valley residents were under the influence of intoxicating substances?

It won't come as a surprise to you to know that I am not a great fan of the technology that takes personal data and shares it - even anonymously but do find data fascinating.
