Film was animated; audiences not so

Went to movie tonight - our 3rd NZ movie in a month. This one called 25 April is made by director who did Topp Twins movie. It is all in animation - we thought the animation was done well - very evocative of the Japanese adult animated movies we have seen such as The Wind Rises that we enjoyed a few years ago. One of the points of interest for us is that one of Bernie (&Una's) nephews, Adam, worked on the movie. He is in the credits for his work on the 3D animation.

This movie has not been well received in NZ which seems surprising given that it pretty much puts on screen what is drawing crowds at various ANZAC displays at places like Te Papa. We sat in grand isolation in the theatre - our own private screening. I imagine the movie will have a very short run - guy who showed us to our seats said none of the screenings of this movie had many people

Perhaps the timing alongside Hunt for Wilderpeople which has been so very popular (and is good)

We found it well done

Do recommend private screenings - you can talk through the movie without being socially inappropriate
