Taking the fun out of driverless cars

posted 23 Jul 2015, 02:30 by Tony Kirby
Listening to the panel on National radio yesterday a tedious fact emerged; even if you have a car that drives itself, at least in the UK you'll need to act as if you are driving it yourself. This rules out talking on cellphones or having your feet up on the dash. Intoxication is also out as is reading the paper. It appears that there are twin reasons for this. The  first is that a real person must be present to take over if needed (so driverless cars still have steering wheels). The second is to avoid startling other drivers same basis perhaps very small drivers whose heads barely reach the dash should have a raised seat.
