Heard a fascinating article on radio today as I did my third visit to Whanganui in the same month. Anyway this weekend is the American Super Bowl - apparently this is the second biggest food eating weekend in the US. Thanksgiving is the biggest. Super Bowl food is however quite specific - pizza, buffalo wings, guacamole. Around 31million kg of guacamole - which is around 158million avocados. In 2002 the Hass avocado board thought there weren't enough avocados being eaten so did a campaign to link guacamole to the Super Bowl. Was successful - increased avocado consumption more than 10fold. I hope there was more to the campaign than this ad |
